How do I store my wig?

The best way to store your wig is on a Wire Wig Stand or Foam Styrofoam wig head. This will keep your wig fresher and maintain its style between wearings. Keep your wig in a clean place, away from dust, sources of high heat and excessive humidity. Never enclose in a box or plastic bag (except while traveling).

What about cutting, re-setting and coloring my wig or hairpiece?

We recommended that any cutting, coloring or rinsing, as well as permanently re-curling of your wig or hairpiece, should be done by us or another trained professional.

Can the wig be made bigger or smaller to better fit my head?

Yes, all wigs can be adjusted to fit your needs, by tightening or loosening the Velcro tabs located in the back of the wig.

How do I take my correct head measurements?

Most people wear "average". However, if you aren't sure of your size, see our Fitting Sheet

How does your Professional Styling Service work and what is the cost?

If you feel you need alterations for example, making your wig cap a smaller size or stretching the wig cap for an extra large fit, please e-mail us your measurements at HairIQ@CreatedHair.com and we will give you a price for this additional service.

Will my wig frizz?

Frizzing is usually caused by excessive steam; for example, opening the oven, the dishwasher, the clothes dryer and any other heat source, such as the blow dryer and curling iron. Frizzing also occurs by friction, such as long hair wigs rubbing against the back of the chair. Depending on the condition of the wig, Ces Cheveux FDH Pack should be able to help this as well.

What does a Monofilament Wig mean?

A wig cap style, offering the most realistic scalp appearance and hair "movement" possible! The hand-tied top, combined with a double mono-filament, creates extra comfort as well as quality and naturalness. Tape tabs are at the front hair-line, and side ear tabs. This extra security allows easier styling while wearing, and provides the most freedom for an active lifestyle.

Can you use a hair straightener on a synthetic hair wig?

It is not suggested to use hot straightening iron on synthetic hair as it will burn the hair. Additionally, when using a blow dryer it should be on cool or if you use heat hold the piece 12" from hair. Synthetic wigs are very easy to care for, compared to human hair wigs. The most important thing is to use products that have been specially formulated for use on synthetic fiber wigs and hair add-ons. Even the most mild and gentle products intended for human hair will eventually dull the fibers of a synthetic wig. Hairspray for human hair is especially damaging to a synthetic wig, and it can actually deteriorate the fibers. See: Wig Maintenance Most any "name brand" synthetic wig care products should be fine for your synthetic wig. The products CreatedHair.com offers have proven to work wonderfully on synthetic pieces. Ces Chevaux Organic Shampoo is a gentle shampoo formulated for daily use. Jojoba oil maintains the proper moisture balance for clean, healthier hair and scalp.

What kind of brush or comb should I use on my pieces?

It is also important to use combs and brushes that are designed for use on synthetic wigs, or if using a regular hairbrush or comb, be sure it has the rubber "tips" at the end of each brush bristle or tooth of the comb. This will prevent the fibers from splitting, and keep the wig from looking fuzzy and dull before its time. Yes, even wigs do get split ends! A full wig or 3/4 cap fall generally needs to be washed only about once every ten to 12 times it is worn. The reason most wigs need cleansing is to rinse the accumulated scalp oils from the cap, rather than to wash the actual fibers. However, if you use a lot of mousse, gel or spray on your wig, it will likely need to be washed more often. We suggest using our Professional Cleaner to remove residue off the hair. It will recondition the hair simultaneously and leave it soft and supple. Remember, each time the wig is washed, it shortens its lifespan, so the idea is to use as few styling products as possible so that it won't need to be washed as often. Also, wearing a wig cap underneath your wig will help to absorb the scalp oils. We offer several types of these on our site. If you'd like to put a bit of curl back into your wig, read on. While re-curling a wig is possible, it can be very time-consuming if it is a very curly style. The best curlers to use are soft sponge rollers, or Caruso Steam Curlers and choosing the size will, of course depend upon the tightness of the curl that is desired.

What are the different types of wig attachments?

There are several different types of wig attachments:

Tape: Double-sided adhesive strips or roll. Comfortable and very secure. Allows daily removal of system.

Semi-liquid wig adhesive: Is similar to tape. Used to create a stronger bond. Can be worn from 3 to 5 days.

Clips: Attached to the underside of the wig or hair unit. Grips the strong, growing perimeter hair. Daily wear or longer, depending on your preference.

Liquid Adhesive: Stronger than tape. Lasts up to 5 days without removal. Remove with solvent or 99% alcohol, which can be purchased at your local pharmacy.

Extended Wear Bonding: Creates a firm attachment to the hair track with a medically approved "super glue" type product. Must be applied by a specialist trained in this procedure or results can be disastrous. Lasts 3 to 6 weeks.

Weave: A single tiny cornrow braid around the perimeter of the bald area. Acts as an anchor so that unit may be sewn in place.

My hair is weak and not strong and I find that clips do not hold the hairpiece in place securely. My hair is thin on the crown and I use a hairpiece to cover it up. What method would be best for securing the hair piece?

There are a few options for you. You can use small bobby pins to secure the piece to your naturally growing hair, wear an integration hairpiece where you pull you own hair thru the large open wefts on the base and secure it with toupee clips, or you can wear a wig that is made with a product called Dermafix. Dermafix is a medical grade material that will adhere to your head without pulling on your hair.
